There's plenty of competition available this weekend for bowlers who crave a little action.

The Northeast Bowling Proprietors of New York/Huck Finn Joe Donato Senior Tournament will hold qualifiers Saturday at 3 p.m. at Sunset Recreation and Sunday at both 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. at Uncle Sam Lanes in Troy. You get a break on the entry fee if you try Saturday's qualifier, as it's only $40, compared to $50 for the Sunday squads. Re-entry is $40 if you want to try more than once. Remember that you also need to have your Huck Finn membership fees paid up.

If you're not a senior, then you might want to try the third annual Towne Bowling Academy Handicap Team Tournament Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.. Top prize is $4,000 per team. Call Towne at 355-3939 for more information.

For the scratch player who wants to venture out of town, the 21st annual Michelob Ultra Scratch Challenge is set for AMF Pin-O-Rama Lanes on 1724 Genesee Street in Utica. Top prize is $3,000. Call 315-735-7543 for reservations.

And don't forget that the local proprietors are giving away free bowling balls at every taping of the Capital Region Bowling Show. This weekend, there will be two tapings on Sunday at Barbecue Lanes in Hoosick Falls. The first taping begins roughly at 4 p.m. You must be present to have a chance at winning the free bowling balls.
