Emily Quick has plenty of pals.
The 8-year-old Rotterdam girl is battling a rare form of bone cancer. On July 11, the affable bunch at Richard DiCristofaro’s Wedgeway Barber Shop kept the red, blue and white stripes on their barber pole spinning for extra hours on a Saturday afternoon, snipping hairs and counting dollars for Emily’s continuing medical care.
I wrote a piece for both the printed version of the old Gazette, and online for Type A to Z. You can read the latter story by clicking here.
And keep reading. Emily has another bunch of friends from another profession who are preparing to lift spirits and voices this Sunday afternoon. It’s all happening at Northern Lights, at 1208 Route 146 in Clifton Park. Seven bands will be on stage, beginning at 2 p.m., and I’ll run down the schedule in a second.
Tony Leonardi, who plays in the 10-piece horn band Fluid Motion, is one of the main men behind the concert for Emily. He’s friends with Emily’s parents, Graig and Erika Quick. And he knows all about young Emmy.
“She is currently in a six-month regimen of chemotherapy, and is doing surprisingly well,” Tony said. “Graig and Erika need help with the medical expenses, so I thought we could do something for them.”
That’s how the Northern Lights gig began to grow. It helps that Tony is buddies with Dave Graham of The Blisterz — I met Dave this past spring, and wrote about his multi-band concert show “Wildwoodstock” to benefit Wildwood Schools. I’m sure Dave provided some tips for a benefit.
Tickets are $8 in advance — call 371-0012 for more information on them — and $10 at the door.
The Website fluidmotionband.com has even more details!
Here’s the line-up for the all-ages show:
* Blackcat Elliot, 2 p.m.
* The Blisterz, 3 p.m.
* Erin Harkes, 4 p.m.
* Fluid Motion, 5 p.m.
* Hour of Need, 6 p.m.
* Mariaville Cattle Company Band, 7 p.m.

There will also be a special appearance by Tina Dame from ABC’s “Ex-Wives Club” series.
“This is a charitable event, but I hope to raise awareness for rare disorders, and hopefully promote more research into rare disorders like this one,” Tony said.
Hope people pack the place. Good music is just part of the deal ... nice to see people banding together for a cause. And this cause is a good one!
