Colonie native Shevy scores at Belmont

Colonie native Mike Shevy won Saturday at Belmont Park with a horse he owns and trains, Courageous Karen, in a $60,000 maiden special weight. With Jorge Vargas Jr. in the irons and running against the boys, she covered six furlongs on the inner turf in 1:09.92, finishing a half length ahead of Sayaprayerforme and paying $11.40, $6.40 and $3.60.

The 4-year-old Courageous Karen was unraced until last year, and is 1-1-2 from seven starts this year, with a pair of near-misses at Saratoga.
