HIXNY medical records network expands

Five area health institutions have joined the Health Information Xchange of New York, the Latham-based medical records network known as HIXNY, and three more local groups now feed clinical data into the network.

Four Winds Saratoga, Glens Falls Hospital, Adirondack Radiology Associates in Glens Falls, Schoolhouse Road Pediatrics in Albany and Seymour Fox Memorial Foundation, Inc. in Albany, have all joined HIXNY in recent months, according to a company newsletter. Adirondack Neurology Associates, The Center for Rheumatology and New York Oncology Hematology now push clinical data into the Health Information Exchange.

Last fall, about 50 percent of Capital Region physicians were tied into HIXNY, which connects electronic medical records systems into one network, allowing physicians from across the greater Capital District to pull up patient records from other hospitals and emergency rooms.

More than 80 percent of hospitals in the region were connected to HIXNY at the time, as well. In addition, more than a third of patients in the region had given doctors the go-ahead to use their health data in the HIXNY network.
