Honors for 4 local nursing homes
Four nursing homes in the Capital Region were ranked among the best in the nation, according to the latest U.S. News and World Report rating.
Using data published by in January by the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, U.S. News collected information from states and individual homes, assigning a rating of one to five stars in three categories — state health inspections, nursing and physical therapy staffing, and quality of medical care.
Four local homes, out of a total 37 in the Albany-Schenectady-Troy metropolitan area, received a five-star ranking. They include the Avenue Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre in Schenectady, Saratoga Care Nursing Home in Saratoga Springs, Schuyler Ridge in Clifton Park, and St. Peter's Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Albany.
The homes were judged on health and safety standards for food preparation and other activities as reported in their last three state inspections, as well as the average amount of care each resident receives per day, and quality measures such as flu vaccinations, pain, bedsores, urinary tract infections and other care-related problems.
