Ellis honored for stroke care
Ellis Medicine has been recognized for its quality stroke care for the seventh consecutive year.
The Schenectady-based hospital system was named a 2013 recipient of the American Heart Associations Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award.
"Get With The Guidelines-Stroke" is an in-hospital program that launched in 2003 to improve stroke care by promoting consistent adherence to the latest scientific treatment guidelines. Hospitals that follow the treatment guidelines start patients on aggressive risk-reduction, aimed at reducing death and disability and improving the lives of stroke patients.
“Ellis is dedicated to making our care for stroke patients among the best in the country,” said Ellis Neuroscience Center Director Jeff Winacott in a news release. “This recognition demonstrates that we are doing great things and we’re very proud of our team.”
Studies have shown that patients treated at hospitals that follow these guidelines end up with a higher quality of care and better outcomes than other stroke patients, said Dr. Lee H. Schwamm, chair of the Get With The Guidelines National Steering Committee and director of the TeleStroke and Acute Stroke Services at Massachusetts General Hospital.
“Ellis’ team is to be commended for their commitment to improving the care of their patients," he said.
