This farmers market delivers

Sawmill Farms in Amsterdam and Elderberry Herb Farm in Sharon Springs have joined the Mohawk Valley FarmieMarket, an online farmers market that delivers products right to its customers' doors.

The market has seven other members — all carefully chosen, local, family-run farms that serve Montgomery and Fulton counties, as well as southeast Herkimer and northern Otsego counties. Products available on the website contain no antibiotics, hormones, pesticides or genetically modified organisms.

New member Sawmill Farms is run by Dave and Jane Potts and specializes in beef and poultry. They offer beef cuts, duck, turkey, chicken and lamb. The Potts founded their farm in 1976 on a small plot of land. They named it after two sawmills and a gristmill that used to be on the land in the 1800s. Today, they have 70 acres of pastures and woodlands.

Elderberry Herb Farm is another small, family-run farm. Julie and David Herzog operate their farm on 152 acres in Sharon Springs that used to contain a thriving hops farm in the mid-1800s. Today, the farm includes a two-acre herb field, a one-acre elderberry orchard, hop vines and an old apple orchard. They create products using their own recipes and many of their own herbs, which are grown organically without pesticides or artificial fertilizers. Products include teas, seasoning and rubs, all-natural bath products, perfumes, salves, insect deterrent, tea cozies, herb pillows and potpourri.
