Report: Cuomo's staff hides public info in private emails
As attorney general, Andrew Cuomo was a strong proponent of open government. But as governor, his record on transparency is less than stellar. A report by Justin Elliot of Pro Publica, a nonprofit investigative journalism website run by the former investigative editor of The New York Times, takes a look at how the governor's staff communicates public information through private email accounts. That allows them to avoid press scrutiny of their communications, dodge Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests and destroy public information that should be retained. Here's a link to the full story. It's an interesting and worthwhile read: http://www.propublica.org/article/cuomo-officials-keep-email-in-private-account-shadows
