After jumping out to 3-0 lead in the first period against Colgate, Union held on for a 5-4 ECAC Hockey victory Friday at Messa Rink, despite a hat trick by the Raiders’ Tyler Burton.

The win ended the Dutchmen’s nine-game losing streak to the Raiders. Union extended its winning streak to three.

Jason Walters, Adam Presizniuk and John Simpson sparked the Dutchmen to the lead. Burton scored a power-play goal late in the first.

The Raiders cut it to 3-2 when Jason Williams put in the rebound of a Nick St. Pierre shot past goalie Corey Milan 5:14 into the second. Lane Caffaro gave the Dutchmen a 4-2 lead midway through the period, converting a two-on-one with Stephane Boileau.

Burton made it a one-goal game with 2:40 left.

Union held on to the advantage, and killed off three penalties in the third. Mike Schreiber gave the Dutchmen some breathing room when he scored with 3:51 left. That proved to be the game-winner when Burton completed his hat trick with a power-play goal 41 seconds later.

Union will host Cornell at 7 p.m. Saturday.
