Writer and director John Sayles met with Schenectady High School students today, answering questions about the film business and his new film “Honeydripper.”
Sayles fielded topics ranging from the difficulty making his movies, to casting and his favorite part of his movies. He was accompanied by his producing partner Maggie Renzi.
They are on a 17-city tour promoting the movie. They stopped at his namesake school, the high school’s Sayles School of Fine Arts, ahead of tonight’s premiere at Proctors.
The tour, he said, is to build word-of-mouth for his small-budget movie. Most of the students viewed the movie earlier in the week.
“We rely on word of mouth,” he told the students. “That’s a lot cheaper than buying a quarter-page ad in the New York Times.”
