Union completed a weekend sweep of Capital Region-rival RPI on Saturday with a 4-1 ECAC Hockey victory at Houston Field House.
The Dutchmen won, 2-1, Friday at Messa Rink.
It was Union’s sixth straight victory, tying a team record. The win also moved the Dutchmen into a three-way tie for fourth place with Cornell and Harvard. The win also gave them the Capital Skates Trophy for winning the series.
Meanwhile, the Engineers have hit rock bottom. Once ranked in the national poll, RPI lost for the ninth straight time.
After Jonathan Orneals gave RPI a 1-0 lead at 6:47 of the first period, John Simpson tied it at 7:42. Stephane Boileau made it 2-1 for the Dutchmen at 12:25.
Josh Coyle and Mario Valery-Trabucco scored in the second for the Dutchmen.
Justin Mrazek made 24 saves for Union, as did RPI’s Mathias Lange.
The two teams head to the North Country next Friday. Union plays St. Lawrence, while RPI visits Clarkson.
