An Albany teenager has been charged in connection with a shooting that left a man dead, police said Tuesday.

Ramel Ramos, 17, pleaded not guilty to aggravated assault in the incident Monday.

Carlos Vasquez, 29, of Schenectady, was killed in the incident, but it’s unclear who shot him.

A second man, Javon Shelton, 25, of Rutland, was wounded.

Shelton told police Ramos and Vasquez came to Rutland to sell marijuana, but there was a disagreement and one of them pulled a gun, according to court papers. Shelton said he tried to wrest the gun away and that a struggle ensued.

He told police the second man then pulled a gun and that he heard both weapons fire.

Ramos, who fled the scene, was arrested early Tuesday. He was ordered held on $250,000 bail.

Ballistics tests on the bullet that killed Vasquez will determine if the charge against Ramos is upgraded, according to Rutland County State’s Attorney James Mongeon.
