Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is issuing subpoenas to some of the nation’s large health insurance companies, saying they defraud consumers by manipulating reimbursement rates.
Sixteen subpoenas are being sent to companies including Aetna, CIGNA and Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield.
The case contends that insurance companies are underpaying consumers who use out-of-plan physicians.
No company or individual has been charged with wrongdoing.
Cuomo wants to end what he claims is a fraudulent practice and seek restitution for customers.
