The Albany College of Pharmacy has been placed on probation by its accreditation agency because it has not fully implemented a new curriculum.
Gil Chorbajian, executive director of marketing and communications for the college, confirmed today that the school has been placed on probation by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education. He said the council wants the school to move from a lecture-oriented format to more of an active-learning approach.
“We’ve been in the process of phasing in those changes to the program. They’d like us to move a little more quickly in that regard,” he said.
Chorbajian said college officials are in the process of preparing a response to the council’s report, which it received last week.
“They’ll review our progress in June, at which point we feel pretty good that everything will be resolved,” he said.
He said the school’s roughly 1,400 students would not be affected by this process.
