Among the shows on the schedule is “Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris,” a musical revue of songs written by the French troubadour, which will run from Jan. 9 to 19, 2009, and be directed by veteran SLOC performer Allan Foster. Foster was part of the performance when SLOC did the show in 1972 and again in 1988.
“Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris” was an off-Broadway smash in 1968, and has continued to be performed in regional theaters around the country ever since.
“I saw it during the late Sixties in New York and it was very well-received,” said Foster. “They translated his songs into English, which can be pretty difficult to do, but I read how he came to this country to watch the play and in general he was very happy with it. I loved watching the show, and I really enjoyed performing in it twice up here.”
“Thoroughly Modern Millie,” the winner of six Tony Awards in 2002, will kick off the season on Oct. 3. Jeffrey Scott will be the director.
“Seussical,” written by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, will be SLOC’s holiday offering Dec. 5 to 14. Rounding out the schedule in 2009 are “Assassins,” March 6 to 15, and “The Scarlet Pimpernel,” May 1 to 10.
