Three people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries after a two-car accident that led to one car smashing into the front entrance of the Palace Theatre during the morning commute.

Police spokesman James Miller said a car being driven west on Clinton Avenue by Kelli Morocco, 33, of Watervliet, struck a car driven by Robert Lemery, 48, of Albany, as Lemery was making a left turn onto North Pearl Street from Clinton Avenue shortly after 8 a.m. The force of the accident caused Lemery’s car to jump the curb and strike the entrance to the theater, Miller said.

Miller said Lemery and two passengers in his car, Dale King and Marilyn Mohamed, sustained minor injuries and were taken to Albany Medical Center and St. Peter’s Hospital, where they were treated and released.

Morocco was not injured, Miller said, but an investigation determined she was driving faster than the posted speed limit.

There was extensive damage to the front doors to the theater, Miller said, but no structural damage was found during an inspection by the city’s Fire and Building and Codes departments. The theater’s box office was open shortly after the crash.
