A 35-year-old state police lieutenant committed suicide in his home Tuesday afternoon.

Lt. Joseph Banish, a 13-year veteran of the state police, was last assigned to the traffic section of division headquarters on the state office campus in Albany.

Banish was not married and had no children.

State police Lt. Glenn Miner said, “The circumstances surrounding his death are being investigated, but no foul play is suspected. Because it is a personnel investigation, we cannot comment further.”
