City police have charged two men in a Wednesday afternoon burglary that led to a third man being shot.

Police said Jermel Hawkins, 31, of Duane Avenue, and Jerome Jordan, 28, of Madison Avenue, tried to burglarize an apartment at 309 Front St., but were captured by police, Hawkins after a brief foot chase.

Police said they heard gunfire as they responded to the call about 4:50 p.m. and found a third person, as yet unnamed, who had been shot in the leg. That man was taken to Albany Medical Center, and police said he may be released today, at which time he will be interviewed and possibly charged, as well.

Hawkins was charged with second-degree burglary and resisting arrest, while Jordan was charged with second-degree burglary. Hawkins was being held without bail in the Schenectady County jail, while Jordan was being held on $25,000 bail.
