Have you ever wondered what it would be like to meet the snowboarders in the X Games? During the winter, my brother, Steven, went to the 2008 Winter X Games in Colorado. He took the trip with my dad, my uncle, and my brother’s friend.
When Steven went to the Winter X Games, he said, “It was really great to meet all the snowboarders in the event.”
Steven shook hands with Shaun White and he also talked to Andreas Wiig for a while. Andreas Wiig won the slopestyle competition this year and my brother and his friend were there when he won. On Shaun White’s run in the slopestyle competition, you could see my brother on the TV high fiving Shaun White after his run. Before his run, Shaun White broke his board, which is really unusual.
My brother also went to the big air competition. Steven said, “If I could stay there forever, I would!”
My dad said, “It was more fun than the Summer X Games in California!”
The slopestyle competition is like a terrain park at a regular ski mountain. A terrain park section is a part of the mountain that contains jumps, rails and usually a half pipe. The Big Air competition is where snowboarders go off a gigantic snow ramp and do crazy tricks off it.
My brother also went to the qualifying round of the super pipe competition. The super pipe competition is where there’s a huge half pipe and snowboarders ride down the half pipe and do tricks. A half pipe looks like a pipe that gets cut in half and it is covered with snow.
I wish I could have gone with them but my dad said, “Only your brother gets to go this time.” My brother has goggles signed by the professional snowboarder Eero Ettala! It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience they will never forget. Maybe someday, I will be able to go.
