A man was taken by emergency helicopter to Albany Medical Center this afternoon following a logging accident across from the Shenendehowa Central School District’s main campus on Moe Road.

Town emergency officials said two men from an area excavation company were downing trees for an unspecified construction project when a tree fell and struck the hard hat of the 30-year-old victim with such force that it split his protective headgear in half.

First Assistant Fire Chief Jim Ryan of the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Fire Department said the victim was conscious but not alert when emergency squads arrived.

Shenendehowa officials gave the emergency helicopter permission to land on their football field, although the accident did not occur on school property and was unrelated to any construction on the school campus.

Ryan said no information was being released about the identity of the victim.
