Come fall, Montgomery County residents will have another retailer on Route 30.

The new 126,842 square-foot Target is slated to open Oct. 12, according to site manager Paul Lasorsa.

Lasorsa said the building process, which began earlier this spring, is moving along according to plan, and he doesn’t see any reason the company wouldn’t make the anticipated opening date.

“Every community I go to, there is a certain level of excitement with residents glad to see us coming in,” he said. “We are not a low all retailer, but we’re not high end either. We have good stuff at a great price.”

Benderson Development, the project’s developers, are also working on a 37,000 square-foot retail building attached to the Target store and a four more smaller spaces for retail and restaurants on the 40-acre site.

Town Supervisor Thomas DiMezza said construction on Route 30 will be abundant this summer, with crews also working on a new Walgreens pharmacy and the state Department of Transportation beginning improvements to the roadway.

DiMezza said DOT crews have already begun work in Fulton County and are working their way down Route 30 to Amsterdam Memorial Hospital. He said work will include lane closures and motorists headed to the Adirondacks this summer should expect delays.

“All I can ask is that people have patience and look at the end product, which will hopefully be very nice,” DiMezza said.
