Two of three assistant Schenectady police chiefs to take the civil service exam for the vacant chief’s job passed the exam, county officials said this afternoon.
Michael Seber and Mark Chaires passed the exam, while Jack Falvo failed, officials said.
Because the list of those to pass the exam did not include three in-house candidates, the law allows the city to choose from among the outside candidates to pass the exam.
Four of six outside candidates who took the exam passed, including William Hasper, whose 86 was the highest score posted. Steven Stella scored 80, while John F. Tedesco had a 72 and Steven Minard posted a 70.
Seber scored 80 and Chaires 74, though each received four bonus points because of their standing as assistant chiefs.
