Town police are investigating overnight vandalism to 38 South Colonie Central School District school buses that forced schools to close today.
Transportation officials discovered early this morning that vandals had climbed the fence at the bus garage during the night, entered buses and discharged fire extinguishers on those buses.
The interior of the buses were covered with white residue from the extinguishers, though no other damage was reported.
School officials initially announced a two-hour delay in school, but when the damage was surveyed, it was determined the buses couldn’t be cleaned in time to provide transportation. School administrators decided at 7:30 a.m. to close school for the day.
The buses will be cleaned over the weekend.
