The state Comptroller’s Office has launched a Web site showing how much 113 state agencies spent last fiscal year in 11 major categories like salaries and construction, as well as spending on some 60,000 active state contracts.
Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli says Open Book New York will soon add 2008-09 agency spending and will later add more detailed line items, as well as local government spending, including school districts. Talks are under way to add all off-budget state authorities.
DiNapoli says the goal is government transparency. The active contract listings go back 10 years and will be updated nightly.
