Two RPI players picked in NHL draft

Sixth-round pick of Nashville

RPI sophomore defenseman Jeff Foss and incoming defenseman Mike Bergin were selected in the Saturday’s NHL draft in Kanata, Ontario.

Foss was pikced in the sixth round by the Nashville Predators. He had a goal and three assists in 38 games last season. He is the first RPI player to be selected in the draft since Francois Senez was taken by the Detroit Red Wings in the ninth round of 2001 draft.

Bergin was picked in the seventh round by the Dallas Stars. He played for the Smiths Falls Bears of the Central Ontario Junior Hockey League. He had 11 goals and 18 assists in 33 games.

The Engineers will have four players on the roster who were drafted by NHL teams. Incoming goalie Allen York was a sixth-round pick by the Columbus Blue Jackets last year. Junior defenseman Christian Jensen was a ninth-round selection of the San Jose Sharks in 2004.
