Authorities believe that an early Saturday fire that left 12 families homeless may have been arson, but they haven’t finished their investigation yet.
The blaze at 923 Francis Ave. broke out just after midnight. Authorities said it appeared to have started in an unlocked back staircase.
“It looks like a suspicious fire,” said Deputy Chief Rod Rosate. “Right now, we’re not exactly sure what happened.”
About 20 residents were safely evacuated from the building, and firefighters saved a dog.
