The Saratoga Springs man injured when the experimental aircraft he was piloting crashed Tuesday at the Schenectady County Airport remains in critical condition this morning.

Charles Hudson, 42, was flown to Albany Medical Center from Ellis Hospital late Tuesday afternoon after the small plane he was flying lost power during takeoff and crashed into trees shortly after 3 p.m. Police have not yet officially identified Hudson as the pilot, but sources confirmed he was the man at the controls of the home-built replica of a World War II P-51 Mustang.

The aircraft had just taken off when it crashed in a wooded area north of the Empire State Aerosciences Museum and east of Route 50.

Investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration were on the scene shortly after the crash to investigate, and officials from the National Transportation Safety Board are expected at the airport today.
