A Fort Plain man involved in a fatal auto accident in May is facing vehicular manslaughter and other charges in an indictment handed up today in Montgomery County Court.

Edward D. Dillenbeck, 20, of 133 Canal St., is charged with vehicular manslaughter, first-degree reckless endangerment, vehicular assault, driving while ability impaired by drugs and failure to keep right, District Attorney James “Jed” Conboy said.

Dillenbeck was driving a full-size pickup truck about 4 p.m. on Stone Arabia Road on May 27 when he collided head-on with the Chevrolet Astro van driven by Patricia McVeigh, 53, of Fort Plain. McVeigh was pronounced dead at the scene.

Also injured was Dillenbeck’s year-old son, Zanith Longfellow, Conboy said. Conboy said he believes the boy has recovered from his injuries.

The indictment alleges Dillenbeck’s ability to drive was impaired by prescription medication and marijuana, Conboy said.

Dillenbeck was sent to the Montgomery County jail on $30,000 cash bail, and his arraignment was set for Monday, Conboy said.
