The Albany College of Pharmacy has expanded — its name that is.

The 127-year-old institution will now be known as the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. College officials selected the new name to better reflect the broad range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs now offered at the college.

During the last few years, the college has added to its core degree in pharmacy other programs including bachelor’s degrees in pharmaceutical sciences, clinical laboratory sciences and health and human sciences; a certificate program in cytotechnology; and opportunities for students to pursue joint degrees in medicine, law or business through cooperative agreements with area schools.

In the past year, the college received approval for its first three master’s degree programs, in pharmacy administration, pharmaceutical sciences and health outcomes research.

“While the pharmacy program remains central to our mission, we are building around it with new and expanded programs to better align with the needs of students and the demands of a constantly evolving health care industry. We believe the name change will play an important role in driving this institutional growth,” President James J. Gozzo said in a statement.

The college on Thursday also unveiled a redesigned logo and Web site at www.acphs.edu. The old Web site at www.acp.edu will continue to work for another six months.
