Tyler Dehmer’s 82-yard kickoff return for a touchdown with 14 seconds remaining rallied Shenendehowa past Ballston Spa tonight, 45-41, in a see-saw Empire Division football battle that left the Plainsmen alone in second place with the Section II playoffs on the horizon.
William Huyben had scored his fourth touchdown of the game moments earlier for the Scotties on a four-yard run that made the score 41-38 in a game filled with lead changes.
Huyben’s one-yard touchdown run as the clock expired gave Ballston Spa a 28-21 halftime lead.
The Plainsmen struck first on Bronson Greene’s 63-yard scoring run on the second play from scrimmage, but the Scotties countered with a big play of their own, a 51-yard run by quarterback Mark Seager that led to a 14-14 tie.
Shenendehowa finished 5-1 in division play, Ballston Spa 3-3.
