Curious George, the mischievous monkey who has charmed children for decades, will stroll through downtown as part of this year’s annual Gazette Holiday Parade.
Curious George will appear as a two-story-tall, gas-filled balloon, guided along by 35 Price Chopper volunteers.
The parade will step off at 5 p.m. on Nov. 22 from Lafayette Street. It will move along State Street and end near Schenectady County Community College. This route is a change from last year’s event. The reviewing stand will be in the south side parking lot closest to Proctors.
Price Chopper is providing the giant balloon, said Mona Golub, vice president of public relations & consumer services. Two years ago, the food store chain brought Alvin the Chipmunk” to town as a giant balloon.
“This year’s theme lent itself well to Curious George, a beloved bedtime story character whose adventures appeal to families of all ages, as does the parade” Golub said in a news release.
The theme of the parade is “Fairy Tales and Bedtime Stories.” Mother Goose, the grande dame of children’s stories, will make a special appearance. The Electric City Clown Alley and other special guests will provide pre-parade entertainment.
During the parade, which should end approximately 7 p.m., the westbound lanes of the Western Gateway Bridge to Scotia will also be closed. Eastbound traffic will be permitted.
