Goalie Corey Milan stopped all four shots he faced in the overtime shootout, and Stephane Boileau and Mario Valery-Trabucco scored to lift Union to a 2-1 victory over RPI in the Governor’s Cup Friday at the Times Union Center.
Union will play Colgate in Saturday’s final at 8 p.m. The Raiders beat Robert Morris, 5-2, in the first semifinal. This is the Dutchmen’s first trip to the Cup final, and the second straight tournament championship game. They lost to Nebraska-Omaha, 2-1, in overtime in last Saturday’s Mutual of Omaha Stampede final.
Since shootouts aren’t recognized by the NCAA, the game goes down as a 1-1 tie.
RPI, which takes on Robert Morris in the third-place game at 5 p.m., won the first two Cup championships.
Scott Halpern scored early in the first period for the Engineers. Kelly Zajac tied it for the Dutchmen late in the second period.
