Earning its first trip to the Class AA Super Bowl, Schenectady raced to a 17-0 halftime lead and went on to defeat Niskayuna, 27-8, tonight in a semifinal game at Larry Mulvaney Field.
Marc Thompson had touchdown runs of two and 10 yards, and Johnny Best tacked on a 26-yard field goal on the final play of the half.
Thompson’s first score, on the Patriots’ initial drive, was set up by a 43-yard pass play from Nick Ottati to Anthony Cooper.
Thompson tacked on a third touchdown on a one-yard plunge in the second half, and best was good on another field goal, this time from 32 yards.
Niskayuna, hurt by turnovers in the early going, finally got on the board when quarterback Dan Peters made his 27th touchdown pass of the season, a five-yard strike to Ryan Alden
Schenectady, which has a 7-1 record, will play LaSalle next Friday, 7 p.m., at Colonie for the Section II championship in a rematch of game during Week 6 which the Patriots won.
