If the Union women’s hockey team had any thoughts of snapping its 86-game ECAC Hockey winless streak, Yale’s Crysti Howser quickly dashed them.
Howser scored goals in the first minute of the first two periods Friday, sparking the Bulldogs to a 4-0 win over the Dutchwomen in the ECACH opener for both teams at Messa Rink.
The Dutchwomen (0-1 ECACH, 0-8-1 overall) are now 0-85-2 since their winning their only league game Feb. 28, 2004, against Cornell. Union is 1-100-2 in ECACH play since becoming a Division I program in 2003-04.
“We weren’t focused today,” Union coach Claudia Asano said. “I don’t know if we were really ready. We were prepared for them in practice. When you have 12 freshmen, and I hate to say it, [but] youth sometimes takes over, unfortunately. But I know they’ll rally back [today against Brown].”
