The Shenendehowa boys will be chasing their third straight New York State Federation championship and their fifth since 2002 when the Fed meet is held Saturday at Bowdoin State Park in Wappingers Falls.

The Plainsmen are coming off a convincing victory in the Class AA state meet over the difficult course at Sunken Meadow State Park on Long Island.

Shen’s lineup includes Alex Leuchanka, Dan Harris, Brian Trainor, Mike Danaher, Jamie Glover, Chris Shartrand and Brent Pavlick. All are seniors except for Harris, a junior, and Shartrand, a sophomore.

Section II will also be represented by Class A state champ Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake and Queensbury in the boys’ race, which will start at 1 p.m.

Individuals who were invited to the Fed meet include Saratoga Springs senior Demetri Goutos,

Cobleskill-Richmondville junior

David Richards and Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons senior Jonathan Aziz.

The girls’ race is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. and will include six teams from Section II.

Class A powerhouses Burnt Hills and Queensbury will square off against each other again, and Saratoga, Shenendehowa, Guilderland and Class D state champ Greenwich are also in the 27-team field.

Fayetteville-Manlius, the Class AA state champ and the top-ranked team in the country, is skipping the Fed meet, which could open the door for a Section II team to win the championship.

Saratoga won the Fed meet six years in a row from 2000-2005, but Fayetteville-Manlius won it the last two years.

The Blue Streaks were second last year, and Shenendehowa was sixth.

Individuals who have been invited to the girls’ race at the Fed meet include Niskayuna’s Chelsea Trant and Schuylerville’s Samantha Watson.
