Schenectady city police are investigating two apparently unrelated shootings today.
Police said Elijah R. Jones, 22, of Paige Street, suffered a gunshot wound to the head at 12:04 a.m.
Jones was unable to tell officers whether the assailant was on foot or in a vehicle. The Schenectady Fire Department transported Jones to Albany Medical Center. A hospital spokewoman said his condition was critical tonight.
At 1:45 p.m., 30-year-old Edwin Villalongo, of State Street, suffered a gunshot wound to his back. He was able to drive to 929 Emmett St. where he asked the residents to call the police. Villalongo was transported to Albany Medical Center by the Schenectady Fire Department. He was still being evaluated tonight at the hospital, a spokeswoman said.
