Tim Hughes of Queensbury and Kelly Blackhurst of Johnsburg were the combined champions at the Alpine portion of the Ahearn Memorial Ski Meet Saturday at Royal Mountain.

Carly Wynn and Kevin Sprague of Queensbury won the individual Nordic titles at Lapland Lake on Friday.

Johnstown was the host school.

Blackhurst, a junior, skied off with her crown by winning the girls’ slalom in the morning and placing fourth in the afternoon giant slalom.

Melissa Dombroski, a Shenendehowa senior, was the girls’ giant slalom victor. Runner-up spots went to Brielle Korenowski of Stillwater in slalom and Jesse Burdett of Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake in giant slalom. Burdett was also third in slalom, with Liz Schwab of Saratoga Springs taking third place in giant slalom.

Shenendehowa won the girls’ team title in slalom with the quartet of Melandie Scuderi (fourth), Dombroski (fifth), Jourdan Pignatelli (17th) and Kaitlyn Tepper (20th).

The Queensbury girls were first in giant slalom. Scoring for the Spartans were Alexis Hudson (fifth), Sierra Genier-Metivier (eighth), Emily Magee (17th) and Megan Schemerhorn (21st).

In the boys’ slalom race, Shenendehowa senior Steve Brown was first, beating out Hughes by .72 seconds. Skiing into third place was Alex West of Lake George. Hughes bounced back in the giant slalom to edge runner-up Jake Jacobs of Glens Falls by .48 seconds. Paul Dreyer of Saratoga was third.

Saratoga Springs came home with both the boys’ slalom and giant slalom team titles. The winning slalom team was comprised of Will Dreyer (fifth), Dave Scavone (seventh), JB Noonan (eighth) and Tom Bishop (12th).

Paul Dreyer led the Blue Steaks to victory in giant slalom with his third-place finish. His brother, Will, was sixth, with Noonan 10th and Scavone 12th.

Wynn’s win at Lapland Lake was by a whopping two minutes and 14 seconds. That’s not surprising, considering that she is undefeated over two seasons in Section II competition and the reigning New York state champion in cross country skiing. Her teammate, Danielle Winslow, was second, followed by Kati Christoffel of Shenendehowa. Julianne LaJoie of Queensbury placed fourth to sew up the girls’ team title for the Spartans. Johnsburg, led by Emily Burns’ fourth-place finish, was second to Queensbury in team scoring.

Queensbury might have had a sweep in the boys’ Nordic race, but Willie Underwood of Lake George slipped into second place behind Sprague to break it up.
