Union beats Clarkson, clinches home ice for postseason

Harr nets game-winner

Union senior defenseman Mike Harr picked a great time to score his first goal of the season.

Harr scored with 8:57 left in the third period, snapping a 1-1 tie and giving the Dutchmen a 2-1 ECAC Hockey victory over Clarkson Saturday at Messa Rink to clinch home ice for the first round of the ECACH tournament next weekend.

The Dutchmen will face the Golden Knights in the best-of-three series starting Friday. The two teams tied for eighth, and split the season series. The Dutchmen won the tiebreaker by virtue of most league wins, 9 to 8.

Harr took a Kelly Zajac pass and blasted a shot from the top of the right circle past goalie Paul Karpowich.

“We knew we had to come back,” Harr said. “We weren’t going to go up to Clarkson for the playoffs. That wasn’t going to be my last home game.”

Tickets for the series will be on sale from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and 9 a.m. until game time Friday. Tickets for games Saturday and, if necessary, Sunday, will go on sale starting at 4 p.m. All-session passes are $30 for box seats, $25 for the bleachers and $15 for students. Individual game tickets are $12 (box seats), $10 (bleachers) and $6 (students).

Tickets can be purchased at the alumni gym box office, by phone (388-6020), fax (388-6695) or online at www.unionathletics.com. The online purchasing will be available later in the day Monday.
