Fujicolor Processing notified the state today it will close a film manufacturing plant with 145 employees in Rensselaer County by July 1.
Fujicolor filed a Workers Adjustment and Retraining Notification with the state Department of Labor.
The announcement is the largest plant closure in the Capital Region this year and the largest since Super Steel Schenectady announced in December it would close and lay off 175 workers. Super Steel closed this week, the state said.
The state WARN Act requires employers to provide 90 days’ notice prior to a plant closing, mass layoff or relocation occurring on or after Feb. 1, according to the DOL Web site.
The notice gave the economy as the reason for the pending closure. A spokeswoman for Fujicolor in Tarrytown did not return a phone call for comment.
The notice said the plant at One Power Way employs 145 people, mostly in entry level positions. Employees do not have bumping rights.
Bob Pasinella, executive director of the Rensselaer County Economic Development Corp. and Planning, was unavailable for comment.
