An Albany man set fire to his ex-girlfriend’s apartment last week, and she responded by smashing out his new girlfriend’s car window, police said today.
Now both are facing criminal charges.
Shaleek Drayton, 31, of Lark Drive, is accused of setting fire to the apartment of ex-girlfriend Kaishamia Benson Thursday at 390 Clinton Ave.
Drayton allegedly broke in, set fire to Benson’s clothes and fled. The fire caused extensive damage to her apartment, as well as other floors, police said. No one was hurt.
Benson then confronted Drayton at his 60B Lark Drive apartment. While there, Benson allegedly smashed out the windshield of Drayton’s new girlfriend’s car.
Drayton allegedly retaliated by taking out a knife and cutting Benson, police said.
Drayton was charged with second-degree arson, second-degree burglary, second-degree assault and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, felonies.
Benson faces a count of criminal contempt because she allegedly violated an order of protection when she went to Drayton’s apartment.
Further charges could be filed, police said.
