2 men under arrest in Schenectady club killing

Two city brothers were arrested Wednesday, accused of shooting another pair of brothers — killing on

Two city brothers were arrested Wednesday, accused of shooting another pair of brothers — killing one — last month outside the former Aquarius Club, police said.

Ronald C. Frasier, 35, of State Street, and his brother, Robert L. Frasier, 33, of Emmett Street, were charged with one count each of second-degree murder and second-degree attempted murder.

They are accused in the April 25 shooting death of 42-year-old Ronnie L. Crenshaw III outside the former Aquarius Club, as well as the wounding of Crenshaw’s brother, Yuceff Crenshaw.

News of the arrests was welcomed by the Crenshaws’ family.

“We’re absolutely elated,” Ronnie Crenshaw Jr. said Wednesday evening from his Pennsylvania home. “I’ve felt the Schenectady police were doing a great job from Day 1 … we have nothing but praise for them.”

Yuceff Crenshaw was hospitalized after the shooting but has since been released, police said.

Ronnie Crenshaw III was a father of five. His oldest child is 20, and the youngest, baby Ronnie Crenshaw IV, was born two days before his father was killed, Ronnie Jr. said.

Both Frasiers are accused of opening fire on the Crenshaws, police spokesman Sgt. Eric Clifford said. It was unclear which brother fired the fatal bullet.

All four men were in the parking lot outside the former club. The club was hosting a private party that morning. Police did not say if the four men were attending the party. The Crenshaws were shot at about 2:30 that morning.

Police also did not release a motive, only saying that the shooting was the result of a dispute.

The arrests were the result of a joint investigation by city police detectives, the city Office of Field Intelligence, state police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the state police Major Crimes Unit.

Ronnie Crenshaw Jr. singled out for praise detectives Thomas Adach and Steve Sheldon and Capt. Peter Frisoni.

The Frasiers had been persons of interest for some time. They were finally arrested Wednesday morning without incident. Robert Frasier was arrested at his Emmett Street residence, Ronald Frasier at another location.

Records show that Ronald C. Frasier has been arrested several times in recent years on misdemeanor offenses, including contempt, assault and aggravated unlicensed operation.

Wednesday’s arrests were in contrast to a massive manhunt five days after the killing, April 30. Police were looking for a man that day and stopped a car in the Central State Street neighborhood. The man, however, fled and was not found.

Police at the time said the man was either a suspect or a witness to the shooting. Clifford confirmed Wednesday that the man being sought that day was a witness believed to have been at the club and not one of the two people arrested.

The Frasiers were being held Wednesday night in the city police lockup. They were expected to be arraigned in City Court this morning.

Ronnie Crenshaw Jr. said Wednesday evening that he hoped to be in Schenectady in time for the arraignments this morning.

“We’re really relieved these guys are off the street, not only for justice but for the safety of the community,” he said.
