A former treasurer for New York’s largest state and municipal workers’ union has been sentenced to probation for embezzling at least $40,000.

Carol Bruno pleaded guilty in federal court in January and agreed to pay restitution to the Civil Service Employees Association. Bruno admitted she stole the money from the CSEA’s Region IV accounts over a two-year period beginning in March 2004.

The 53-year-old Wynantskill resident was expelled from the union and her treasurer’s position in July 2007.

In court Friday, Bruno was ordered to serve three years on probation, the first 10 months of which will include home confinement.
