WILTON — A Freon gas leak in a roof-top cooling unit at the Wilton Mall on Tuesday evening forced firefighters to shut down the mall early.

Assistant Chief John Lant of the Maple Avenue Fire Department said four or five people in the mall on Route 50 reported headaches and dizziness, especially near the Bath and Bodyworks store in the mall. The gas incident was reported shortly before 8 p.m. and the mall was evacuated after that.

Five fire companies along with the county’s Hazardous Materials unit responded to the scene. The Wilton Emergency Squad evaluated those people complaining of dizziness. No one was hospitalized, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office. Firefighters located the faulty cooling unit and shut it down Tuesday night. The mall was expected to open as usual today.
