Hours before he was supposed to race on Sunday at Saratoga Race Course, a jockey was arrested when police said they found cocaine on him during a traffic stop.
Norberto Arroyo Jr., 33, had been scheduled to ride in four races on Sunday and seven races today.
Now he’s being held in Saratoga County jail in lieu of $25,000 bail or $50,000 bond.
The Winthrop, Mass. man was driving on Park Place just before 8 a.m. when police pulled him over for not wearing a seatbelt.
During the stop, police allegedly found 11.9 grams of a white powder that turned out to be cocaine.
They charged him with two felony drug charges, one criminal possession of a narcotic drug with intent to sell it and one criminal possession of a narcotic drug. Arroyo also faces a misdemeanor for allegedly driving without a license and a traffic infraction for not wearing a seatbelt.
