ST. MATTHEWS, S.C. — The man accused of murdering Schoharie County truck driver Jason Rivenburg will go on trial in South Carolina today.
Willie Pelzer, 23, was charged with murder and armed robbery in an indictment following a grand jury’s review of the March 5 shooting, court officials said.
Rivenburg, then 35, was resting in a truck at an abandoned gas station in South Carolina when police allege Pelzer approached him and killed him with at least two shots from a .45-caliber handgun.
Pelzer made off with the $7 Rivenburg had on him, police have said.
At the time of the killing, Rivenburg was the father of a young son and he and his wife Hope were expecting twins.
Also charged in the investigation were Jimmie Haygood, 22, and Willie Reed, 21, who were charged with accessory after the fact of murder. Their cases are pending, authorities have said.
