NIAGARA FALLS – Niagara used a 24-3 run early in the second half to break the game open against Siena and went on to win, 87-74, at the Gallagher Center tonight, stopping Siena’s nation-leading winning streak at 15 games and handing the Saints their first MAAC loss of the season.
Tyrone Lewis scored 24 points for the Purple Eagles.
Ryan Rossiter had 23 points and 11 rebounds for the Saints.
Siena fell to 14-1 in the MAAC and 21-5 overall, and Niagara improved to 7-8 and 14-13.
The Saints led, 50-46, but managed just three free throws over the next six minutes as Niagara went ahead, 70-53.
Niagara scored the last six points of a frenetic first half and took a 39-37 lead.
The foul-plagued Saints outrebounded the Purple Eagles, 24-15, but committed 11 turnovers and 11 fouls.
Siena led, 35-26, then Niagara outscored the Saints, 13-2 down the stretch.
