A fire that damaged two apartments at Franklin Square on Friday night was determined to be caused by electrical failure in the laundry room.
Chief Robert Williams announced the cause today of the fire at 2 Franklin Square, saying the blaze was sparked by an electrical problem in the junction box in the building’s laundry room.
Investigators interviewed a third-floor resident who reported smelling smoke and found flames coming from an electrical panel box in the second-floor laundry room about midnight. That person alerted other residents.
The fire spread to the third floor and attic, resulting in heavy fire, smoke and water damage to two apartments.
The exact cause of the electrical failure could not be determined.
