Authorities are investigating to determine what killed a Schuylerville woman who was in police custody at the city lockup early this morning.
Meredith Lickwola, 38, of Casey Road stopped breathing sometime after 2 a.m. while alone in the women’s cell at the police station and was pronounced dead at Saratoga Hospital.
She was picked up at her home at 1:42 a.m. on a bench warrant for failing to complete her sentence in a petit larceny case. Police said she appeared to be fine when she was in police custody, and was OK during several routine checks police conducted while she was in the cell.
Then they found her unresponsive but breathing during another routine check.
After emergency medical technicians responded, she stopped breathing, and was taken to Saratoga Hospital emergency room, where she was pronounced dead.
