New York parks officials are proposing $4 million in fee increases for this year besides various park closings and service cutbacks as part of the Paterson administration’s effort to close state spending deficits.
The Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation says proposed increases include raising the parking fee at ocean swimming beaches from $8 to $10 per vehicle. Others include a $5 per night surcharge for campsites on out-of-state visitors and raising the greens fees for Bethpage Black, home of the 2009 U.S. Open, from $60 to $75.

Lawmakers are proposing additional funding to keep the state’s 178 parks and 35 historic sites open.
