A Colonie police officer was arrested for misdemeanor assault today after city police said he broke his wife’s nose during an argument the night before.

Edward Weber of Clifton Park was charged with third-degree assault, an arrest Albany police said stemmed from an incident in Washington Park.

Weber, 42, has been placed on paid administrative leave by the Colonie police department, Colonie Police Chief Steven Heider said.

Weber was arraigned in Albany City Court and released without bail.

Albany police said Weber allegedly was driving through the park at about 11:10 p.m. Thursday, and got into an argument with his wife. While driving, police said, he reached across and struck her in the face, breaking her nose.

The victim called police immediately after the incident. Police said she was treated by emergency medical personnel at the scene and taken to Albany Medical Center for further treatment.

Detectives from the city’s domestic violence unit arrested Weber this morning in Colonie.

Heider said Weber, a patrol officer with the Colonie Police Department for the last 10 years, will remain on administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal case and of an internal investigation by the Colonie department.
